So what do these ESPN layoffs mean for the "employees" in the Sports Media industry? This makes the third round of substantial layoffs in the last two years at ESPN. ESPN has lost 10 million subscribers over the last six years and employees are losing their jobs. The Network pays 3.3 billion dollars annually for the NFL on Monday night and NBA games. A former ESPN employee or executive should apply for jobs at Fox Sports 1, WWE, HBO Sports, NBC Sports, CBS Sports, or any other ESPN competitor. But there are only so many jobs to go around in the Sports media industry. The sad truth is many of these higher-paid executives and middle-aged employees are losing out to millennials in a business where "younger" is the hiring mantra in Sports Media Production.
